Animal Abuse is a Crime! Help LASD Efforts to Prevent Animal Cruelty

Animals can’t speak for themselves. They aren’t able to alert authorities to abuse, and they can’t report who is making them suffer. It’s up to you to speak for them.

Sheriff McDonnell stands firm in his belief that, “Animals are strong in affect and have a range of emotions. Much like human beings, they are harmed both physically and psychologically by violent abuse. They deserve to be protected under the law. It’s the humane thing to do.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) has zero tolerance for any act of animal abuse, neglect or cruelty. That also includes animal blood sports. Often this can start with someone reporting an animal seen chained up for days, or a caged bird that appears injured. Animals seen abused on social media or confined to a hot car can also be reported. Be that animal’s voice and get it out of its abusive situation immediately, before serious injury or death occurs. Don’t assume that someone else will call authorities.

Partner with LASD by calling 911 or your local police agency if you witness or suspect animal cruelty or neglect. Be prepared to provide dates, locations and specific instances of abuse so that any animals in danger can be rescued immediately and ensure prompt and lifesaving care.

ANIMAL CRUELTY IS A CRIME. REPORT ANIMAL ABUSE TO YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF'S OR POLICE STATION
