In case you are looking for a place to enjoy the great outdoors, Catalina Island is a place where you can go fishing, camping, hiking, and biking.

Catalina Island has a population of approximately 5,500 full-time residents, 5,000 of which live in the 2.6-square-mile City of Avalon. The total population can reach as high as 20,000 on a major holiday, while 10,000-15,000 is common for most weekends between May and November. Avalon averages over a million visitors annually.

Avalon Sheriff's Station provides law enforcement for Santa Catalina Island, San Clemente Island, and the ocean waters between the islands and mainland of Southern California. The personnel roster of the station consists of a Captain; three sergeants; and thirteen deputy sheriffs. These personnel are augmented by reserve deputies during the busiest holiday seasons and on summer weekends. The civilian roster is comprised of seven employees.
