Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell and Homicide Detectives provide 2nd update on the @EastLALASD Deputy involved shooting that occurd Mon Sep 24, 2018

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are investigating a deputy-involved shooting which occurred on the 3600 block of Meisner Street in East Los Angeles on Monday, September 24, 2018 at approximately 11:26 p.m. Detectives have learned a patrol unit observed a suspicious vehicle at the location, which was occupied by two male Hispanics and one female Hispanic adult.Deputies attempted to contact the occupants of the vehicle. As one of the two deputies made contact with the occupant on the rear passenger side, a physical altercation ensued. During the course of the physical altercation, that suspect produced a semi-automatic handgun and the deputy and suspect began fighting over control of the gun. The second deputy saw her partner fighting with the suspect and ran to his aid, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck at least once in the upper torso. The deputy involved in the fight, was struck once in the right forearm. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound and was listed in stable condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene and no other injuries reported.

The two additional occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident and were being held pending further investigation. The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time
