Profile of a Special Person: From Adversity to Triumph Security Officer Sireni Galindo’s journey to mentor young mothers

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, LASD Security Officer (SO), Sireni Galindo assigned to County Services Division’s Hall of Justice security detail, was recognized at the El Nido’s Fourth Annual Garden Gala hosted at the Robinson’s Garden in Beverly Hills.

El Nido Family Centers is a nonprofit social service agency which provides counseling and family support services to disadvantaged communities throughout Los Angeles County. Some of the programs they offer include; Child Abuse Prevention, Parent Education, Teen Parent Family Services and Youth Development.

As a teenager SO Galindo was faced with the challenges of being a young mother. She participated in the El Nido Family Teen Family Service Program, which educates teen mothers and provides them with skills and resources to be successful parents. Participants work with case managers that evaluate the unique needs of each teen, and provide them with services including health care, counseling, educational assistance, vocational training, housing, nutritional and/or income support.

With this strong support and her desire for a better life, SO Galindo flourished and eventually was hired in 2017 by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. SO Galindo continues to work with the El Nido Centers to mentor and assist others who once needed the support she received. Undoubtedly she has a bright future with the LASD, and aspires to further her law enforcement career and one day become a Deputy Sheriff. SO Galindo is the essence of an inspiring role model for her 6 year old daughter, teen parents and her LASD family.
