Male outreach program at Dominguez HS a huge success

Dominguez Tie Day event a huge success

On Friday October 5, 945 young men and approximately 300 professionals including #LASD personnel gathered at Dominguez High school for the first annual and successful “Dons Day-Tie Event” Dominguez High School Principal Blain Watson from Compton Unified School District and #LASD Compton Sheriff's Station Deputy Rafer Owens partnered with Compton Station personnel and church members from Faith Inspirational Baptist Church and collected hundreds of donated ties for the event. The young men were welcomed by a man made tunnel of mentors that consisted of Deputies, professors, attorneys, real estate agents, artists, executives and other professionals. Mentors at the event volunteered their time to reach out to the young men and taught them how to tie. Additionally mentors were able to discuss life guidance and answered questions from the students.

The event was promising and inspirational and the attendance was enormous. Everyone involved sees similar events in the near future. By working together professional leaders can strengthen the lines of communication between the young men who will soon become adults. Personnel from LASD attended the event with the ultimate goal to improve the relationship between communities.
