Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Community Partnerships Bureau H.O.S.T Team, is partnering with other law enforcement agencies, organizations, and community members to help homeless persons. Last week Veronica Marella with Du cOeuR Project, joined #LASD Homeless Outreach Services Team at the weekly program in Whittier Narrows Park. Every Thursday for almost one year different organization and volunteers come together to provide meals, clothing, showers, toiletries and various government services and information.

Veronica Merella was employed as a Deputy for LASD and medically retired. Later she became a surgical technician and one day while working in the operation room, she realized she could recycle waterproof and sterilized surgical wraps and transform them into mats for homeless persons to sleep on. Last Thursday Veronica and her partners handed out one hundred and fifty mats at the Whittier Narrows Park location.

With rain season around the corner #LASD H.O.S.T Team also took the opportunity to inform the homeless community about the dangerous of riverbeds.

Last Thursday’s meal was donated by Operation Healthy Hearts. Other participants and volunteers included Lava Mae Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Department Public Social Services, County of Los AngelesHomeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreationand Providence Little Company Of Mary Torrance Medical Center
