#LASD Let''s Talk Community Policing

Various officials responsible for public safety in Los Angeles County participated in the Los Angeles County Civilian Oversight Commission’s “State of Community Policing” conference hosted at the Center at Cathedral Plaza in downtown Los Angeles.  Panel members included Sheriff Jim McDonnell, Chief Michel Moore from LAPD, District Attorney Jackie Lacey, Federal Public Defender Hilary Potashner, Supervising Judge, Scott Gordon, and Peter Bibring from the American Civil Liberties Union. Other community leaders, media representatives and community members participated in this days’ worth of valuable dialogue.

The intent of the conference was to openly discuss the challenges, trends and future of community policing in Los Angeles County.  Sheriff McDonnell mentioned “ this is a great opportunity to bring different stakeholders together with the same issues to make our streets, schools and communities safer places to live and thrive.” Topics discussed were the use of technology by law enforcement, trends in law enforcement, fair and impartial media coverage, and of course next steps in community policing.
