#ThrowbackThursday #ThenandNow

Now that’s one way of getting into a night club after hours! 1941: #LASD Deputies conduct an illegal drinking raid at the Club Marcell in #WestHollywood. Back then, if you brought your own bottle, you could drink hard alcohol but it could not be sold. Turns out#JohnWayne was a bar patron after they made their way through! After these types of entries became more and more common, and Suspects began to fortify their positions more with barricades and weapons, The Sheriff’s Department decided it needed a specialized team to make these entries – the Special Enforcement Detail.

originally started in 1958, the Special Enforcement Detail was a ‘call at need’ response force of SWAT, and other specialty deputies, to deal with protests and civil disorders. In the decades since, Special Enforcement Bureau has grown in size and specialties to become one of the most well-known tactical teams in the United States. It is a full-time unit that consists of Special Weapons, Canine, and Emergency Services Teams. Combined with their exceptionally trained personnel, they are responsible for handling high-risk tactical operations involving barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and of course, high-risk warrant services where specialized entry needs to be made.
