This week the Bear will be everywhere in full force for the New Year’s Eve!

The New Year’s holiday is a day that brings family and friends together to celebrate another year. It is also a day, unfortunately, when some people make poor decisions.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be highly visible in the enforcement of laws during New Year’s Eve. We will have more deputies on the road looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

#LASD has partnered with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to help spread the message and get impaired drivers off the road.

#LASD also encourages residents of LA County to celebrate responsibly as we bring in the New Year. Despite public warnings and common sense, many people across Los Angeles disregard advisement, basic firearm safety, and discharge firearms into the air to celebrate the arrival of the New Year.

Shooting a gun into the air is a felony, and puts the entire community at risk. If you see someone discharge a firearm in public or into the air, take immediate shelter and call 911, you can remain anonymous if you want to protect your identity. Do not attempt to confront the shooter.

Enjoy all the New Year’s Eve festivities, but allow others the same opportunity to celebrate.

As always if you are out celebrating the New Year responsibly and see one of our fine deputies out on patrol, please stop by to say, “Hello” and a “Happy New Year!”
