#LASD #TBT 1955: In October 1955, Firestone Sheriff's Station opened as the very first Sheriff’s station in Los Angeles County. The station was located in the Florence-Firestone area of unincorporated Los Angeles, at 7901 S. Compton Avenue and policed the surrounding area. Firestone Station was considered the most modern law enforcement facility of its time, and served as a model station that others would follow. It closed in 1993 after being open for 38 years, and was replaced with Century Sheriff's Station that is still operating today. Century Station serves the communities of unincorporated Athens Park, unincorporated Florence-Firestone, unincorporated Willowbrook, unincorporated Walnut Park and the city of Lynwood. Today Century Station Sheriff’s Station Youth Activities league occupies the location. The Century Sheriff’s YAL was created in 1996 by using the former Florence-Firestone Park Sheriff’s station and transforming the building from a law enforcement facility to a community safe-haven for children. Over the course of years, this program has continued to grow and expand in its efforts to reach the youth in the community and show them a better path in life. This year also marks our second year providing an expanded summer program which serves over 500 children each day. There are dozens of programs and activities that children can participate year round which include tutoring, a computer lab, martial arts, boxing, dance, arts and crafts, and various field trips. https://www.sheriffsyouthfoundation.org/
