Town Hall Meet & Greet L.A. County Sheriff

Town Hall Meet & Greet L.A. County Sherif

On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the Consul-General of Thailand in Los Angeles, the Honorable Mungkorn Pratoomkaew, with 18 Thai community organizations held a town hall meeting featuring Sheriff Alex Villanueva.

The colorful and festive Thai culture was on full display, as the organizers welcomed the Sheriff with ceremonial drums and song. Thailand Plaza, located in the heart of historic Thai Town, played host and made for an appropriate backdrop for the vibrant event.

Los Angeles County Reserve Deputy Keith Chatprapachai, a native of Thailand, kicked off the town hall meeting and interpreted for Sheriff Villanueva. The Sheriff, in turn, spent the afternoon introducing himself to the Thai community and taking questions on an array of topics. Of particular importance was the Sheriff’s Department’s focus on filling vacancies by “hiring locally to serve locally.”

When asked how the Thai community could get involved with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Sheriff Villanueva discussed the LASD volunteer and reserve programs. Residents of Los Angeles County with a passion for service and an interest in law enforcement can find fulfilling opportunities with either program.

Yesterday’s event was an opportunity for the Sheriff to engage transparently with the communities the Department serves!
