#LASD Assistant Sheriff Maria Gutierrez Joins Police Unity Tour Bicycle Group to Honor Borderline Shooting Fallen Sergeant Ron Helus.

Yesterday, April 7, 2019, at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, the Police Unity Tour, Southern California Chapter VII, paid a special tribute during a training ride through Ventura County. They conducted a wreath laying ceremony to memorialize and honor the fallen @VenturaSheriff Sergeant Ronald Helus. Mrs. Helus wife of Sergeant Ron Helus was presented with a Unity Tour jersey and a challenge coin on behalf of the Police Unity Tour across the United States.

On November 7, 2018, 13 people were killed during a mass shooting incident at the location, including Sergeant Ron Helus from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

In attendance at the event was Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Assistant Sheriff Maria Gutierrez, and several LASD executives. Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub, and many others came out to join in supporting the fallen officers and our bicyclists who ride tirelessly for a sole purpose, to remember the fallen.

The group also traveled to Malibu Lost Hills Station and honored recently deceased LASD Reserve Deputy Jacob Castroll and LASD Retired Deputy Brian Villa.

Many other police and fire agencies came together for the overnight pre-tour training ride before the big three day event, which takes place over three days starting May 10- 12, 2019. The Police Unity Tour remembers “All” of the officers killed in the line of duty.

The tour ends at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial at Judiciary Square in Washington D.C, and honors over 21,500 names of officers killed in the line of duty.

President Gil Curtis of the Police Unity Tour said, “This is what we do, we ride so no officer will be forgotten.” There are countless officers that gave the ultimate sacrifice and the Police Unity Tour remembers all of them.
