Largest West Coast Recovery of Counterfeit Property

Largest West Coast Recovery of Counterfeit Property

Great work to our Special Unit, The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Counterfeit and Piracy Enforcement Team (CAPE).  They served a search warrant at the 4000 block of Alameda Street in Vernon at a storage facility.

The CAPE Team was assisted by the Los Angeles Police Department anti-piracy unit, members of the department of Homeland Security US Customs and Border Protection-Trade Fraud Group, Homeland Security Investigations, and K9 handlers from Homeland Security US Customs.

Lt. Geff Deedrick advised that a search warrant was the culmination of a 6 month investigation by the LASD CAPE team and investigators from Investigative Consultants.

The investigation was focused on the illegal sale of the counterfeit products throughout Los Angeles County.  During the investigation, a main west coast supplier of counterfeit goods was identified and was the target of yesterday’s operation.

As a result of the search warrant, approximately 15 million dollars of counterfeit products were recovered.

From the size and scope of the recovery, “this was the largest scale of the west coast distributor/supplier of counterfeit property.”  Due to the teams’ excellent work, many individuals were arrested and counterfeit supplies were taken off the street.
