Hit-and-Run Suspect was Apprehended After Two Collisions

A hit-and-run suspect was apprehended after two collisions over the weekend. Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, deputies responded to Newhall regarding a hit-and-run traffic collision. It was reported that a male adult driver collided his vehicle into another vehicle at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway, and sped off. Minutes later, the same driver was reported to be on Newhall Avenue where his vehicle collided with a curb, hitting an apartment sign.

Deputies were able to catch up with the suspect at Railroad Avenue, where they detained him. The suspect had difficulty keeping his balance and once placed in the back of the patrol car, he appeared to be falling asleep. Through tests that were administered in the field, deputies determined that the suspect was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Inside the suspect’s vehicle, deputies found heroin and ammunition. Due to the suspect having a prior felony conviction, it was illegal for him to possess any ammunition. Deputies arrested the 30-year-old Valencia man on felony and misdemeanor charges. He was transported and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.
