2018 American Red Cross Battle of the Badges Blood Drive

LASD Saves Lives by hosting a 2018 American Red Cross Battle of the Badges Blood Drive at the Hall of Justice

Last year’s severe winter weather conditions placed a tremendous impact on blood donations. As a result, more than 150 blood drives were cancelled, which caused more than 5,500 precious blood and platelet donations to go uncollected. The loss was further impacted by seasonal illnesses such as the flu epidemic and hectic holiday schedules.

Blood donations are urgently needed because they help patients continue to receive lifesaving treatments. It also provides hope for our future should another state of emergency or a natural disaster occur.

The American Red Cross 2018 Battle of the Badges is an annual campaign in which hundreds of law enforcement and public safety personnel throughout southern California participate by donating their life-saving gift of blood.

In its eleventh year, this collaborative campaign enables badge-carrying personnel to positively impact their communities by participating in a spirited competition with other first-responding agencies to see which agency donates the most blood and impacts the most lives.

Today, at the historic Hall of Justice in Downtown Los Angeles, Sheriff Jim McDonnell, along with other Sheriff’s Department personnel, gave blood for the gift of life. With the tremendous success of blood donor participants, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is eager to continue to host American Red Cross Blood drives in the near future.
