Captain's Bio

Captain Darren Harris is a 28 year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Jim McDonnell and assigned to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau on April 2, 2017.

Captain Harris’ career with the Sheriff’s Department began in 1990. After graduating the Sheriff’s Training Academy as a Deputy Sheriff, his assignments included the North County Correctional Facility, Altadena and Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Stations, a Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) team assignment, and Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

In 2004, Captain Harris was promoted to the rank of sergeant and worked the North County Correctional Facility and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. He promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2013 and proudly served the community at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. He was later transferred to Sheriff’s Information Bureau as the Operations Lieutenant.

Captain Harris holds an Associate in Science Degree in Administration of Justice from College of the Canyons and a Bachelor of Science Degree, with magna cum laude honors, in Organizational Management from the University of La Verne. He is a graduate of the Deputy Leadership Institute Continuum #3 and was the class Valedictorian.

Captain Harris resides in Los Angeles County. He is married to his wife of 22 years and is the father of three sons. He enjoys outdoor activities in water sports, technological innovation, physical fitness, and traveling with his friends and family.
